Our story

Hope Meadows was created in 1994 following the closure of the Chanute Air Force Base with the intentions of creating an intergenerational community where older adults and foster families would come together to raise and adopt foster children.

Up until 2015, Hope Meadows only accepted older adults and foster families to live in its community to preserve the environment for individuals who would help raise the children in a cohesive volunteer-led community. With changes in the foster care system across Illinois, Hope Meadows has evolved to house grandparent-led households, foster grandparents, and older youth with interest in a community in addition to older adults and foster and adoptive families.

Hope Meadows, while different than when it was initially created, strives to be an interconnected community with residents who work to be involved and continue the original themes of volunteerism and helping your neighbors.
