Dr. David Hopping was the originator of the class concept for the Web Innovation Studio. He received a PhD in Sociology from the University of Illinois and served as a professor in the department from 2004-2007.
Later, he joined the faculty of the iSchool with a focus on networks, web development, design, and content management. Prior to his passing in 2024, he was a passionate web developer whose interest in encouraging his students in a supportive space led to the formation of the Web Innovation Studio.
Along with his wife, Judith Pintar, also an Informatics professor in the iSchool, he wrote Information Science: the Basics, published in 2023.
